Attractions in the Tauferer Ahrntal valley

Mountain lifts

With the Klausberg and Speikboden mountain lifts, you're one step closer to heaven in a few minutes! The cars will carry you high up and lay all the wonders of alpine hiking at your feet. The routes operate in both summer and winter!

Nature park

In existence since 1988 the Rieserferner-Ahrn nature park borders the National Hohe Tauern park and together with the Zillertal area and the main ridge of 2475 km ², they form the largest protected area network in Europe.

In its original beauty, the Rieserferner-Ahrn nature park is the ideal starting point for unforgettable mountain hikes.

A characteristic feature of the water abundance is found in the natural wonders of waterfalls and mountain lakes.

Mine in Prettau & Steinhaus mining museum

In Prettau, Ahrntal, copper was mined for over half a millennium. The administrative centre of the mine was in Steinhaus. In the former granary, the mine's food deposit, the Steinhaus mining museum has been open since the autumn of 2000.

The presentation centerpiece is the extensive mountain art collection of the Enzenberg family. Valuable wood models of mining facilities, paintings and ornate mine maps, books, documents and artifacts from the mine, bring mining history back to life in the Ahrntal.

Nativity museum

In the Nativity Marantha museum in Luttach, you can take a closer look at a typical Tyrolean crib. Set on around 1300 square metres of exhibition space, there are mainly popular Tyrolean cribs, but also antique oriental and modern representations. Particularly impressive is the large walk-over 70 m² crib with life-size figures made of wood.

Alongside the numerous cribs, the museum also highlights the scultpure and carving traditions of Ahrntal.

Castle Tures

Dynastic castle of the lord of Taufers, expanded into a spacious apartment in the 15th and 16 centuries, and since 1977, owned by the South Tyrolean Castles Institute.

The fully furnished and very well preserved castle is one of the largest and most beautiful castles in the whole Tyrolean region.

Of the 64 rooms in the imposing castle, about two dozen are paneled. Of particular value are the frescoes by Friedrich Pacher in the castle chapel. It is particularly nice to visit the chapel, armoury, royal rooms, library, court room, dungeon and stoves.
